Enjoying our home and liking how it looks can really give us a psychological boost; you spend a lot of time there and you want to feel good about the space.
In our pursuit of an aesthetically pleasing abode, we can sometimes neglect the exterior.
If the outside area of your home leaves something to be desired in terms of attractiveness, there are lots of quick fixes that are relatively inexpensive, yet can produce significant improvement.
Here are just a few to consider.
Flowers can do wonders for enhancing the appearance of your exterior, and there are so many ways to go about it. Consider planting flower beds in front of the house or along the walkway; if you want something a bit less labor-intensive, get some potted plants to place on the porch and other areas outside the home, or some window boxes. Choose colors that complement the color of your home and go for a variety of shades.
There are lots of ways you can freshen up the various aspects of your exterior without spending a lot of money; a good power washing can do wonders for your house, driveway, windows, garage doors and front porch. You are so used to looking at your house that you probably do not realize how grimy it is, but once you start washing it, you will see a huge difference. If your concrete driveway is covered in stains, a muriatic acid wash can make it look like new; if you have blacktop, consider getting it refaced.
Get a New Mailbox
While the primary purpose of a mailbox is clearly functional, your choice of a box presents an opportunity to reflect some of your personal style and add some decorative value to the outside of your home. Whether your box is on a post near the curb or attached to the front of your house, there is a large variety of unique designs that can really make your house pop.
Liven Up Your Door
If you cannot afford to fully repaint your house or get new siding, there are little changes you can make to the exterior of the home that can really make it stand out. One such change is the door; like a room, a new coat of paint can do wonders. You might also consider staining. If you can afford it, a whole new door can also do the trick. If you choose to update your current door, do not forget about getting a new lock, knocker and knob.
Putting up shutters is an inexpensive way to instantly change the look of your house. There are many different kinds available so it would be a good idea to do a bit of homework before rushing into a purchase. You want to make sure you pick the best ones to fit your windows and that you find a style that best complements your house. If you already have shutters, give them a good cleaning and a fresh coat of paint.
