Husqvarna 450 Best Gas ChainSaw Review
I work with trees for a living and on the weekends at home, and I use the Husqvarna chainsaw 450 Gas Powered Chain Saw With Smart Start. This is a the best chainsaw for under 500 with a 3.2 horsepower X-Torq engine that delivers lower fuel consumption and reduced exhaust emission levels. A while back this was considered the best chainsaws for 2014 but even after this time it still is on of the top husqvarna chainsaws.
One of the best features about the Husqvarna 450 is the LobVib Chainsaw system that’s specially designed to reduce levels of vibration to the operator. You’d have to do a lot of work with it to fully appreciate the beauty of reduced vibration. I get far less fatigued after using this than I have with other chain saws I’ve used in the past and that is the difference between husqvarna and stihl chainsaws.
Best Features Of Husqvarna 450
- This is a medium-duty rated chainsaw, and it’s light at about 17 pounds
- It’s a sturdy machine that’s well-balanced and I find it easy to handle
- I always use gloves and wear protective eyewear. Safety is a huge issue when using it. And this saw is safer for the environment, with the reduced emissions levels.
- It’s easy to see where you’re at with the fuel since it has a visible fuel level. That’s a nice feature because it makes it easier to focus on my work when I can see where I’m at fuel-wise.
- This saw has the Smart Start and fuel pump that ensures an easy startup every time.
- Tension adjustment is easy with an adjustment feature on the outside
LobVib system reduces vibration. This top gas powered chainsaw is equipped with a LobVib system that cuts down on the vibration. What this means for me is that I’m far less fatigued after the usual extensive session with my chain saw and can have a little better quality time at home after the chores are done.
Equipped with Smart Start
The best chainsaws for the money is always easy to start, which means I can use my energy for doing the work as opposed to starting up the power tool.
Tension adjust is easy. On the outside of the tool there’s easy access for adjusting the chain tension.
Visible fuel level
This isn’t a typical feature, having a visible fuel level. This makes it a lot easier as I’m working to see how much longer I can go before needing to make a fuel stop.
When I’m wearing my rubber boots, it’s a little tougher to start. Start-up is very easy usually, but when I’m out wearing my rubber boots and have to restart, it’s tough, since placing your foot on the Husqvarna chain saw is part of the startup process.
Frequent tension adjustment
Now, I’ve already noted that it’s easy to adjust the tension on this, but it seems that the need of tension adjustments is more frequent than I’m accustomed to.
The Husqvarna Gas Powered Chain Saw With Smart Start is an excellent power tool and an excellent choice if you have a lot of cutting to do and you want a top gas chain saw that’s easy to start and cuts through the wood as easily as a flame melts wax.

The Poulan Pro PP5020AV combines speed with accuracy to give it’s users dependable results. Let me point out the pros and cons of this device here:
These are the pros
It’s a great buy for the price, well built, durable and rugged with a strong 50 cc motor and it even comes with tools and a carrying case. The blade cuts through all types and thicknesses of wood. The handle is designed for reduced vibrations, and it comes equipped with an automatic chain oiler.
Here are the cons
On the flip side, the chain tension employs an older method, and the chain itself is subject to extensive wear if it is not sharpened with a chainsaw sharpener frequently enough. Considering the overarching themes in design and reliability I see in the Poulan are representative of a superior quality machine that is equipped for many tasks.
Poulan Pro PP5020AV Customer Opinions
“This has impressed me. Was needing a cheap gas powered chainsaw for firewood cutting after my old one died, and I decided to choose the Poulan Pro. It is well built, well powered, and has some really good features. The chain tension is the old style which is AAA to me, and it has a place under the throttle handle to store the spark plug wrench on board, nice. It starts great right out of the box, and cuts sizable diameter hardwood with ease. Great case was included. A great buy for the price.”Ted in New Hampshire reports on Amazon.com.

This unit stands tall amongst competitors like Stihl Chainsaws and Echo Chainsaws to be one of the best performers in its category. Husqvarna 455 Rancher Chainsaw Review
I do a great deal of wood cutting on my property and in my job as a forest technician. I use the Husqvarna 455 Rancher for both purposes. It has X-Torq engine technology that helps to reduce the amount of fuel consumed by up to 20 percent and it also reduces emissions up to 60 percent. The engine technology also allows for easy start-up. After extended use, a couple of minutes to cool down is all it takes and the saw fires right back up again. This gas saw has a 20-inch blade, which is excellent and makes it fairly to easy to cut very large trees. I can down a large tree and get it cut for firewood in an incredibly short amount of time, thanks to this work horse of a saw.
I take good care of it, and maintenance is a big part, I think, of whether or not you’ll be satisfied that you get your money’s worth. Almost every time I use the saw, it’s heavy use. I flip the bar every few uses. I keep an eye on the air filter and replace it as needed also i use the best chainsaw sharpener for the blade.
I have a tool for sharpening the chain saw blades. You can tell when sharpening is needed by looking at the size of the chips. If a lot of sawdust is being created, that means you’re working with dull blades. With the upkeep on sharpening, the Husqvarna 455 does a fantastic job of cutting even the hardest woods and the largest trees.
- Simple to start. I would think that a larger saw would be tougher to crank than smaller models, but the opposite is true. I really like the easy-start aspect of the Husqvarna 455.
It’s powerful. This saw cuts through even large trees very easily. Doesn’t matter whether I’m cutting hard maple wood or a less dense wood, it cuts like a hot knife through butter.
It’s durable. I take good care of the saw. A lot of maintenance is required if you treat it right. I’ve gotten a great deal of use out of it. It’s paid for itself many times over and I don’t see any signs it’s slowing down.
It has a 20-inch blade. This top gas chainsaw has a nice 20-inch blade. Coupled with the power, it’s not a complicated process to cut through even the largest trees.
Sensitive to the right oil/gas mixture. I’ve had a little more trouble with the saw in relation to gas and oil mixture than I’m accustomed to. Over time, I’ve overcome that problem by getting it right, using a practiced hand.
It’s heavy. Of course, you can cut anything you need to cut with the Husqvarna 455 Rancher, but it is heavy at about 24 pounds. I do a lot of extended work, so it’s quite a workout.
Overall, I’m completely satisfied with the Husqvarna Rancher Gas-Powered Chain Saw. I work with it at home and on the job, and it simply does an excellent job. Husqvarna is one of the top 10 chainsaw brands with terrific value and this makes it the perfect chainsaw for firewood and one of the best gas chainsaw.

What Will I be Using It For?
Are you buying a chainsaw to cut and prune large trees and hardwood? If so, you will probably require a large and powerful chain saw. Similarly if you are using it to cut softer wood, small timber and pruning, a smaller one with a shorter guide bar will likely be adequate.
How About Safety?
I probably should have started the guide with this but safety is absolutely the MOST important thing when it comes to choosing a good chainsaw. They are not sympathetic to flesh and bone any more than they are to timber and you must be certain you are able to control it BEFORE you start using it.
There are a number of safety features on most chainsaws nowadays and some of they are:
Chain Brake. This is probably the single greatest improvement in chainsaw safety. In the event of kickback your forward hand will hit a guard that stops the chain instantly.
Chain Catcher. If the chain should break this will catch it and reduce the risk of injury.
Easy to access stop control. A button that will stop the chain saw in an emergency. The button must be easy to operate with one hand.
Chain and Bar design. This plays a huge role in reducing kickback. As kickback occurs when the tip of the saw strikes something hard, the smaller the radius of the tip the less the chances of kickback.
Ultimately, user training is the most vital part. If you are inexperienced, take a course! Do not try to use a saw that is too large or heavy for you to control.
What Size of Saw?
This is largely determined by the size of trees you will be cutting of course. Size is measured in terms of engine displacement and guide bar length. Generally a recreational model i.e; not a professional/ industrial one will be under 50cc. Bar length is a very important consideration; a saw with a shorter bar will be easier to control than a longer one as it is significantly lighter. Bar length varies from about 10inch to over 30inch For most homeowner/ recreational saws 20inch is large enough.
How Experienced Am I?
This is a very important consideration. I strongly recommend against buying a large capacity saw with a very large bar for your first one. A smaller chain saw will be more maneuverable and much easier for a beginner to use. A big one will have more space between the handles and the longer bar will make the front of the saw heavier. If you are inexperienced, apart from anything else, you will find a large chain saw model will tire you quickly which in some cases would be very dangerous.
Gas or Electric?
Once upon a time the best gas chainsaw was the only option for any serious logger. That has changed a lot though and now most of the big names in chainsaw manufacture offer powerful electric saws alongside their gas powered range. Ultimately, gas is always going to be more powerful so for professional use, that’s the way to go. There are pros and cons for the best electric chainsaw and the gas models on both sides.
Electric Chainsaws (pros)
- Cheaper (usually)
- Better for occasional use as you don’t have to drain gas when not in use for a while.
- Lighter and easier to control
- No smoke
Electric Chainsaws (cons)
- Less powerful than gas
- You have to plug it in so you are restricted in where you go
- Sluggish in cold weather
Gas Chainsaws (pros)
- Take it anywhere
- Not affected by temperature
- More reliable (usually)
Gas Chainsaws (cons)
So, as you can see neither is better than the other, the Best Chainsaw for you simply has different applications. If you need to take the saw to places without a power source you will have to opt for gas. It may be worth considering the best electric or gas powered chainsaw if it is to be used occasionally in your yard though.
